The biggest difference is time pressure
Classic Block Blast-style play lets you study the current board and all three tray pieces before acting. Standard Tetris asks you to make placement and rotation decisions while a piece is falling. That shifts the skill emphasis from real-time execution toward spatial planning and sequence management.
Block Blast also clears columns
Tetris line clears are horizontal. In this browser game, a completely filled row or column disappears. A single placement can therefore finish a horizontal and vertical line together, which makes intersections especially valuable and changes how you shape the center of the board.
The pieces are not limited to the seven tetrominoes
Tetris is built around tetrominoes made from four blocks. This browser game uses 29 fixed orientations ranging from a single cell and two-cell bars to rectangles, 3×3 squares, L shapes, T shapes and zigzags. Piece size can therefore vary much more from one tray to another.
Rotation changes the kind of spatial skill you need

Which game is more strategic?
They emphasize different skills, so a simple ranking is not very useful. Tetris combines planning with speed, execution and rotation systems. Block Blast-style play gives you more time but asks you to preserve space for uncertain future trays while ordering three current pieces carefully. Strong players in either game learn to see the board several decisions ahead.
